May was born on December 20th, 1868 in Windsor Locks, Connecticut.1   May's father is <Unknown> and her mother is <Unknown>.  Her paternal grandparents were Elijah Ashley and Eliza Ann Jones Mandell. She had two brothers and a sister, named William Charter, <Unknown> and Grace.  She died at the age of 28 in 1896.
