Born on February 16, 1910 in Hollywood, MD she was the daughter of the late William Wallace and Ellen Genevieve Bowles.
She is survived by her husband of 73 years, Joseph P. Wilkinson, Jr., whom she married on April 6, 1931, at St. John Francis Regis Catholic Church, Hollywood, MD. She is also survived by her 7 children, Joseph A. Wilkinson, Kitty Doering, Frances Duke, Dorothy Fenwick and Patricia Dameron, of Leonardtown, MD, Ellen Hall of Chaptico, MD and Karen Behrens of LaPlata, MD. Mrs. Wilkinson had 30 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grand child, one sister, Anne Bowles Abell, of Hollywood, MD survives her, Brothers, Oswald Bowles, William Bowles, Douglas Bowles and sisters, Minnie Hill, Margaret Cross and Dorothy Bowles preceded her in death.
She was a member of the first graduating class of St. John’s Parochial School in Hollywood. After graduating from St. Mary’s Academy in Leonardtown in 1929 she taught school at St. John’s and was one of the schools’s first lay teachers. For many years Mrs. Wilkinson was a faithful member of St. Aloysius Church in Leonardtown, MD and a member of the Altar Society. She was co-owner of Wilkinson’s Appliance and TV store in Leonardtown until the business closed in 1965.
The family will receive friends on October 14, 2004 from 4:00 until 8:00 pm at the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD. Catholic Daughters/Knights of Columbus prayers will be recited at 6:00 pm and family prayers will be at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by her nephew, Reverend George Wilkinson on October 15, 2004 at 11:00 am at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Leonardtown, MD. Interment will follow at the St. John’s Cemetery, Hollywood, MD.
Pallbearers for Mrs. Wilkinson will be her grandsons, Joseph Wilkinson, Matthew Doering, Richard Lacey, Charles Fenwick, Edward Hall, Brian Behrens and Benjamin Dameron.
