Will of Athanasius Greenwell, 4/28/1825-6/9/1829. Two youngest daughters: Mary Sidney Greenwell and Priscilla Greenwell, my land called "Buckland" and "Buckland Plains". Daughter: Mary Sidney, negroes, bed and furniture, cattle, etc. Youngest daughter: Priscilla, negro, bed and furniture, cattle, etc. Daughter: Ann Davis, a negro, bed and furniture, cattle, etc. Daughter: Catherine Greenwell to have a good home on my plantation, a negro, bed and furniture, and my carriage. Wife: Catherine, land on e. side of county road for her life or widowhood, negroes, stock, etc. and then to son Solomon Washington Greenwell. Son: Solomon, negroes, two stills, casks, cider making apparatus, cart, and choice of oxen and colt. Exec: Joseph Davis and my son, Solomon Greenwell. Wit: Jesse Floyd, Joseph Fenwick, Philip B. Court appoints Col. Gerard N. Causine guardian to Solomon Washington Greenwell, a minor. Joseph Davis and John Tennison, in right of Ann Davis and Matilda Tennison, object to the will. Philip B. Fenwick says he lived with the testator for several years and that he was very intemperate but went about doing his work. Joseph E. Fenwick stated that he lived there as overseer and that Athanasius Greenwell and Jesse Floyd drank heavy the night the will was made; he was intoxicated, but had been so for five years. Jesse Floyd stated that he was capable of making a will; he had had a fight with John Tennison; and that Catherine Greenwell was a cripple. The widow renounced the will.
