Bernard Emmett Shannon, age 60, of 8137 Coranado Lane, Rome, died Saturday, January 1, 2000, at Rome Memorial Hospital after being stricken at home. He was born November 14, 1939 in Rome, the son of Bernard E. and Ann Blake Shannon. Mr. Shannon was a graduate of St. Aloysius Academy and attended St. Bonaventure. On June 8, 1963 he married Diane Sasenbury in St. Peter's Church. Mr. Shannon was employed at Off Track Betting for several years, retiring in 1998 due to ill health and was previously employed by several area trucking companies. He was a member of St. Paul's Church and the Rome Knights of Columbus, Council 391. Surviving, besides his wife, are one daughter, Christine Wilkinson, Waterville; three sons and a daughter?in?law, Bernard and Julie Shannon, 111, Boonville; Michael Shannon, Oswego; Sean Shannon, Rome; three sisters and two brothers?in?law, Eileen and Lawrence Kalk, Taberg; Ruth Miller, Rome; Jeanne and William Weaver, Suffern, New York; one brother and sister?in?law, R. Blake and Margaret Shannon, Cleveland, Ohio; and five grandchildren, Timothy Wilkinson, Joshua Tice, Rory and Kaitlin Shannon and Tiffany Shannon. Funeral will be held at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., Rome, Wednesday 11:00 a. m. and St. Paul's Church 11:30 a.m., Interment St. Patrick's Cemetery, Taberg. Friends may call at the funeral home 2?4 and 7?9 p.m. Tuesday. Contributions may be made in Bernard's memory to St. Paul's Church Memorial Fund.
