    second wife Martha on 20 July 1676, this was Elizebeth Maude of Rainhill,
    Lancashire, a widow of Joshua Maude of the cliffs, Wakefield in
    Yorkshire.

    Mrs. Thomas Wynne of Philadelphia and her family:
    Corrections to the pedigrees of Wynne and Maude

    Dr. Thomas Wynne, the welsh physician who accompanied William Penn
    to Philadelphia on the ship Welcome in 1682 and founded an historic
    Philadelphia family, has here for been credited with three wives: first,
    Martha Buttall of Wrexham, Denbighshire, Wales, the mother of his
    childre; secondly a widow Rawden (Rowden); and thirdly, the widow
    Elizabeth Maud (correctly, Maude), whom he married 20 5m 1676, not in
    Wales but in England at Painhill, Lancashire, under the care of the
    Monthly Meeting of Friends of Hardshaw East in that country, and who
    followed him to Pennsylvania.
    The first marriage is correct. The relationship of Mrs. Wynne as the
    daughter of Randle Buttall of Wrexham, is established by her fathers
    will.2
    The name of the so-called "second" Mrs. Wynne has been inferred from
    the known fact that Thomas Wynne had a stepdaughter Elizabeth Rowden
    (Rawden) who was granted liberty by the Philadelphia Monthy Meeting of
    Friends on 5 6m 1684, to marry John Brock of Falls Monthly Meeting.3
    The Alleged "third" Mrs. Wynne has been the subject of printed study
