Pieternella was born in 1872 in Aruba.  Pieternella's father was Eugenio Gallardo Scholten and her mother was Aleida Celestina Gómez. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Anthon, Josef, Maria, Ricarda and Carmelita.  She was the second oldest of the six children.  She died at the age of 78 in 1950 in Aruba.
