    Obituary for H. Patterson
    
    Deacon Herman Patterson passed away very suddenly at his residence on the Poor Farm Road, Auburn, on the evening of June 21st. He was alone at the time, as his wife was called away that afternoon to attend her father, Mr. Isreal Banks, who had been taken suddenly ill. Mr. Patterson was as well as usual when she left him. When she returned, about eight o'clock, she found him dead of heart disease.
    Mr. Patterson was an honorable Christian gentleman and will be very much missed in the community in which he lived as he was always at the head of every good work. He was a deacon in the Greenwood Baptist Church; a Justice of the Peace; a member of the Kingston Lodge of Oddfellows and a member of the Rebekahs, also an Orangeman. It will be a long time before his place will be filled in the community.
    He was twice married, his first wife was Miss Fanny Spinney, who died very suddenly four years ago last fall. He married Miss Mabel Banks, of Greenwood, about two years ago.
    He had three children by his first wife, Arthur of Petersham, Mass.; Bessie Grey of Penobscot, Me.; and Mrs Eva Shepherd, of Everett, Mass., all of whom were home to the funeral. He was buried last Thursday in Greenwood Cemetery by the Oddfellows. The funeral sermon was preached by his pastor, Rev. Geo. Hudson, Revs. E. H. Howe and H. Tucker were also present. In spite of the inclement weather a large member of friends gathered to pay their last respects to their friend and Brother. The floral offerings were beautiful.
    Among them were wreaths from the I.O.O.F. Lodge and the Rebekahs. Also three links of pansies from Mr. C. Neily.
