Christoffer was born about 1530.  Christoffer's father was Otto III von Grothusen and his mother was Elisabet von Ungern.  His paternal grandparents were Otto II von Grothusen and N.N. Margareta (?) von Holstfer; his maternal grandparents were Heinrich von Ungern and Gertrud von Tiesenhausen.  He was an only child.  He died in 1597.
