Mária's father was János Asbóth and her mother was Mária Horváth.  Her paternal grandparents were János Asbóth and Mária Bottka. She had three brothers and three sisters, named János, Julianna, József, Katalin, Erzsébet and Rozália.  She was the third oldest of the seven children.
