Barn at Bremo plantation, Fluvanna County, Virginia (8.4) (Photograph by C.O. Greene, 1940) Completed in 1817, this barn is one of the largest and most substantially constructed farm buildings in Virginia. Designed as a stable for horses, the barn was also intended to be seen as proof of the success of the reform-minded methods employed by the plantation's owner John Hartwell Cocke.
