    SUNBURY — Charles T. Coxe Sr., 77, of 409 Fairmount Ave., died Sunday morning, June 25, 2006, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
    
    He was born June 11, 1929, in Sunbury, a son of the late Gordon and Gertrude (Forrester) Coxe. He married the former Dolores Gearhart on Feb. 24, 1957.
    
    Charles was a member of the Sunbury High School Class of 1947.
    
    He served with the Army during the Korean War.
    
    Mr. Coxe was a well-known businessman in the Sunbury area and formerly owned and operated the Banana Mart.
    
    He was a member of Catawissa Avenue United Methodist Church, Sunbury.
    
    Charles served his community as Sunbury fire chief from 1968 to 1977. He was a member of the Friendship Hose Company, Sunbury; Northumberland Hook and Ladder Fire Company; Northumberland Fire Company No. 1; Herndon Fire Company; Six-County Firemen's Association; Central District Firemen's Association; Free & Accepted Masons Lodge 22, Sunbury; Williamsport Consistory; New Berlin American Legion; Sunbury Veterans of Foreign Wars; Shikellamy Rod and Gun Club; Sunbury Social Club; and the Penn State Bus Club.
    
    Surviving, in addition to his wife, are one daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Robert Shutt of Northumberland; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Charles Jr. and Roxanne Coxe of Northumberland, Chris Coxe of Boston, Mass., and John and Hope Coxe of Sunbury; five grandchildren, Chad, Collein, Nick, John and Jade; three great-grandchildren, Charles IV, Althea and Evan; and two brothers, Russell Coxe of RR1 Sunbury and George Coxe of Northumberland.
    
    He was preceded in death by one grandson, Charles III; one great-grandson, Martin; and two sisters, Sally Wolfe and Alice Naugle.
    
    Friends will be received from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday with a firemen's memorial service at 9 at the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury, where the funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Thomas Schroeder officiating.
    
    Burial with full military honors will be in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.
    
    In lieu of flowers, donations in Charles' memory may be made to Catawissa Avenue United Methodist Church, Catawissa Avenue and Line Street, Sunbury, PA 17801, or the Sunbury Fire Department, P.O. Box 212, Sunbury, PA 17801.
