Edinilza was born on August 4th, 1965 in São Domingos do Prata.  Edinilza's father was Sebastião Alves and her mother is Nilza  Fortunato Mendes.  Her paternal grandparents were José Vicente de Paula and Maria Alves Pinto; her maternal grandparents were Antônio Fortunato da Costa and Ormezinda Angélica (Sinhá) Mendes. She has two brothers named Roberto and Marcelo.  She is the oldest of the three children.
