Aurenice was born on October 16th, 1953.  Aurenice's father was Antônio Fortunato da Costa and her mother was Ormezinda Angélica (Sinhá) Mendes.  Her paternal grandparents were José Fortunato da Costa and Margarida Maria do Nascimento; her maternal grandparents were Joaquim Pereira Mendes and Maria José do Nascimento. She had five brothers and five sisters, named Alcebíades, José Fortunato , Nilson , Ubirajara , Valdir, Nilza , Dirce, Marly, Maria and Edna .
