Mathias was born on May 20th, 1765 in Rupelmonde, Oost-Vlaanderen, Belgium.  Mathias' father was Michael Van Hoeywegen and his mother was Anna Catharina Vermeulen.  He was an only child.  He died at the age of 74 on April 21st, 1840 in Hingene, Antwerp, Belgium.
