Jan was born in February 1748 in Londerzeel, Brabant Wallon, Belgium.  Jan's father is Cornelius Blommaerts and his mother is Elizabeth Van Assche.  His paternal grandfather was Franciscus Blommaerts and his paternal grandmother is Maria Doms. He had four brothers and a sister, named Franciscus, Petrus, Josephus, Jan Franciscus and Joanna.  He is the third oldest of the six children.
