James was born on February 19th, 1859.  James' father was Patrick McGloin and his mother was Margaret Larkin.  His maternal grandparents were Michael Larkin and Bridget Mulrooney. He had three brothers and two sisters, named John, Michael, Edward, Mary and Delia.  He was the oldest of the six children.
