Catherine, known as Gertie, was born on November 25th, 1880.  Gertie's father was John Larkin and her mother was Bridget Kelly.  Her paternal grandparents were Michael Larkin and Bridget Mulrooney; her maternal grandparents were Simon Kelly and Ann Brennan. She had a brother and two sisters, named John, Winnie and Ann.  She was the second youngest of the four children.
