- Little Falls, N.Y. — Dorothy K. Helmer, 80, of 116 W. Monroe St., Little Falls, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010, at the home of her son, John, at 104 W. Gansevoort St., Little Falls.
She was born on May 5, 1930, in Little Falls, the daughter of the late Paul and Catherine (Talaba) Kovac. She was a graduate of Little Falls High School, class of 1948, and was also a graduate of the Utica School of Commerce.
She was a faithful member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Little Falls.
Mrs. Helmer was employed at one time as a secretary for the former Whitman Insurance Agency, Little Falls. She was last employed for 16 years as a health care aide at Little Falls Hospital, retiring in 1991.
She enjoyed cooking and is fondly remembered for her cookies and many baked treats she shared with her family and friends over the years. She also enjoyed taking family trips to Old Forge and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. An avid sports fan for many years, she was always there to cheer on her grandchildren at their sporting events and was a fan of the New York Rangers hockey team.
She is survived by her son, John Helmer, of Little Falls; her two daughters, Kay Oelgeschlager and her husband, Rolf, of Highland, and Susan Judd, of Little Falls; her six grandchildren, Justin and Kaliegh Oelgeschlager, of Highland, Joshua and Sara Helmer, of Little Falls, and Ian and Kiernan Judd, of Dallas, Texs; her brother-in-law, Rev. Richard Muller, of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and her nephew, Dr. Peter Muller, of North Carolina. She was predeceased by her sister, Catherine Muller, in August 2010, and by her dear friend, John Bachorik, in April 2006.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010, at 10 a.m. from the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 512 E. Gansevoort St., Little Falls, with the Rev. Joseph Famulare, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Little Falls.
Arrangements are by the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, 42 N. Ann St., Little Falls. There are no calling hours.
It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mrs. Helmer be considered to the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 512 E. Gansevoort St., Little Falls, NY 13365. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.
