Matthew was born in July 1959.  Matthew's father was Matthew Thomas Ashe and his mother is Ann Faith Tolsen (Ashe).  His paternal grandparents were Patrick Francis Ashe and Hazel Bronk (Ashe).  He has a brother and two sisters, named Brian, Anne and Mary.  He is the third oldest of the four children.
