Thomas was born in 1823 in Leftwich and his christening took place on January 4th, 1824 in Witton.1  Thomas' father was John Winstanley and his mother was Martha Plumb. He had three brothers and three sisters, named John, William, George, Elizabeth, Susan and Martha.  He was the oldest of the seven children.
