Susan was born in 1843 in Leftwich and her christening took place on March 19th, 1843 in Witton.1 2  Susan's father was John Winstanley and her mother was Martha Plumb. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, John, William, George, Elizabeth and Martha.  She was the second youngest of the seven children.
