George was born in 1837 in Leftwich and his christening took place on April 9th, 1837 in Witton.1  George's father was John Winstanley and his mother was Martha Plumb. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, John, William, Elizabeth, Susan and Martha.  He was the third youngest of the seven children.
