Harold was born in June 1882 in Birkenhead.1  Harold's father was Richard Whitehead and his mother was Ann Bamford. He had four brothers and a sister, named Robert, Richard, Albert, Boland and Elizabeth.  He was the second youngest of the six children. He had a half-brother named Elliott.
