George was born in 1836 in Warrington.1   George's father was James Tomlinson and his mother was Mary.  His paternal grandparents were William Tomlinson and Ann. He had four brothers and two sisters, named John, Francis, Albert, Peter, Mary? and Elizabeth.  He was the oldest of the seven children.
