Mary was born in 1697 in Slaithwaite and her christening took place there on October 20th, 1697.1  Mary's father was Benjamin Sykes and her mother was Mrs Benjamin Sykes. She had two brothers and a sister, named John, Edmund and Lydia.  She was the second youngest of the four children.
