Esther was born in 1793 in Almondbury and her christening took place there on October 13th, 1793.1  Esther's father was George Stocks and her mother was Mary Blackburn.  Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Stocks and Elizabeth (Betty) Shaw; her maternal grandparents were Matthew (Matt) Blackburn and Mary Sykes. She had three brothers and four sisters, named Benjamin, Michael, Job, Betty, Esther, Susannah and Ruth.  She was the fourth oldest of the eight children.
