William was born in March 1824 in Sharples and his christening took place on March 7th, 1824 at St. Peters (Bolton).1 2  William's father was Richard Pollitt and his mother was Mary Davenport. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Miles, Richard, Louisa, Mary and Anna.  He was the youngest of the six children.  He died at the age of 70 on December 12th, 1894 in Bolton.1
