Peter was born in 1827 in Edgworth.1  Peter's father was Isaac Mather and his mother was Sarah Jackson. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Joseph, Jacob, Ann, Alice, Jane and Sarah.  He was the fourth oldest of the seven children.
