Martha was born in 1806 in Hargrave and her baptism took place there on February 16th, 1806.1 2  Martha's father was William Hughes and her mother was Mary Benyon. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Samuel, Thomas, Elizabeth, Mary and Hannah.  She was the second youngest of the six children.  She died at the age of 73 in September 1879 in Chester.3
