Eva was born in 1885 in Bolton.1   Eva's father was James Cunliffe Hamer and her mother was Happy Collings.  Her maternal grandparents were John Collinge and Sarah. She had six sisters named Sarah, Mary, Emma, Happy, Maria and Ethel.  She was the second youngest of the seven children.
