Maria was born in 1875 in Darcy Lever.1   Maria's father was James Greenhalgh and her mother was Hannah Wright.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Greenhalgh and Mary Grundy. She had two brothers and a sister, named Joseph, Adam and Mary.  She was the second youngest of the four children.
