Adam was born in 1878 in Darcy Lever.1   Adam's father was James Greenhalgh and his mother was Hannah Wright.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Greenhalgh and Mary Grundy. He had a brother and two sisters, named Joseph, Mary and Maria.  He was the youngest of the four children.
