Sarah was born in 1808 in Bolton and her christening took place on February 21st, 1808 in Deane.1 2  Sarah's father was James Flitcroft and her mother was Mary Cartwright. She had three brothers and three sisters, named John, Thomas, James, Mary, Happy and Hannah.  She was the second oldest of the seven children.
