Joseph was born in 1807 in Bolton and his christening took place on March 29th, 1807 at St. Peters (Bolton).1  Joseph's father was Henry Fairhurst and his mother was Betty. He had two brothers and three sisters, named John, Thomas, Hannah, Ellen and Mary.  He was the third oldest of the six children.
