John was born in 1803 in Bolton and his christening took place on January 30th, 1803 at St. Peters (Bolton).1  John's father was Henry Fairhurst and his mother was Betty. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Joseph, Thomas, Hannah, Ellen and Mary.  He was the oldest of the six children.
