Ellen was born in 1809 in Bolton and her christening took place on April 23rd, 1809 at St. Peters (Bolton).1  Ellen's father was Henry Fairhurst and her mother was Betty. She had three brothers and two sisters, named John, Joseph, Thomas, Hannah and Mary.  She was the third youngest of the six children.
