Bertha was born in 1878 in the Craven Arms.1   Bertha's father was Thomas Brown and her mother was Jane Brown.  Her paternal grandfather was Henry Brown. She had three sisters named Alice, Annie and Eleanor.  She was the second youngest of the four children.
