Florence was born in 1873 in Salford.1   Florence's father was John Brooks and her mother was Ellen Howarth.  Her paternal grandparents were James Brooks and Elizabeth Spencer. She had two brothers and two sisters, named John, Thomas, Edith and Annie.  She was the third oldest of the five children. She had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named James, William and Mary.
