John was born in 1804 and his christening took place on September 21st, 1804 in Malpas.1  John's father was Thomas Brereton and his mother was Elizabeth. He had five brothers and a sister, named Thomas, Benjamin, Barnabas, Abraham, George and Ellen.  He was the third youngest of the seven children.
