George Brereton

George was born in 1828 in Harthill and his christening took place on May 4th, 1828 at All Saints, Harthill.¹²

George's father was Thomas Brereton and his mother was Martha Hughes. His paternal grandparents were William Brereton and Mary Tomlinson; his maternal grandparents were William Hughes and Mary Benyon. He had five brothers and five sisters, named John, William, Thomas, Edward, Samuel, Mary, Elizabeth, Sarah, Anne and Jane. He was the oldest of the eleven children.

  George and Thomas (sons of Thomas and Martha) came out to Australia in 1858 on the Anglo Saxon ship. They arrived 6 years after their two brothers (William & John).
