Florrie's father was John Brereton and her mother was Eliza (Lizzie) Batho. Her paternal grandparents were Richard Brereton and Esther Eddowes; her maternal grandparents were George Batho and Elizabeth Kirkham. She had three brothers and three sisters, named John, George, William, Ada, Ettie and May. She was the second oldest of the seven children.
