Clara's father was John Brereton and her mother was Mary Ann Lea. Her paternal grandparents were Richard Brereton and Elizabeth Ellen Lea. She had two sisters named Emily and Rosa. She was the second oldest of the three children. She died on March 2nd, 1947. She was buried at All Saints, Harthill.¹
