Elizabeth was born in 1850 in Kearsley.1   Elizabeth's father was Thomas Benyon and her mother was Mary Haslam.  Her maternal grandparents were Mathew Haslam and Charlotte Haslam. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Peter, John, William, Robert, Charlotte, Ann and Alice.  She was the youngest of the eight children.
