Sophia was born on July 14th, 1906 in Bolton.1   Sophia's father was James Bateman and her mother was Susannah Howarth.  Her maternal grandparents were James Howarth and Rebecca Greenhalgh. She had two brothers and a sister, named Frederick, Samuel and Mary.  She was the second youngest of the four children.  She died at the age of 74 in September 1980 in Bolton.1
