Sarah was born in December 1870 in St. Helens.1   Sarah's father was James Barrow and her mother was Hannah (Annie) Roydes.  Her paternal grandparents were George Barrow and Nancy Greenhalgh. She had four brothers and a sister, named Levi, James, John, George and Elizabeth.  She was the second youngest of the six children.
