    His wife Sarah had a Son David who was 1 day old at the time of the 1871 census and she was recorded as Married, although her husbmad wasn't present.
    
    They also appear to have had other children in 1875 and 1878, and Sarah was still recorded as Married in 1881, but still no husband present.
    
    He is present at the 1891 and 1911 census.

  • Is missing on 1871 and 1881 census records, but appears on the 1891 census with his wife Sarah. This is because he was possibly a seaman or spent time overseas.
    
    There is a record of him leaving Liverpool Port (origin Stockton) and arriving Sydney NSW on 27 Nov 1871.
    
    On 14 Nov 1891 he arrived in Liverpool from New York on the Umbria.  Occupation farmer.
    
    There are several other records of John Baratt sailing between Liverpool and NY between 1905 and 1918, but not with the age or other details to confirm its the correct John.
    
    In 1891 parents John and Sarah, with Mary, David, John and Kate were living at Stocton on Tees, Durham.  There are no death records and no 1901 census records for the family after then.  Did they emigrate?
