Samuel was born in 1814 in Bolton and his christening took place there on November 27th, 1814.1  Samuel's father was Samuel Astley and his mother was Nanny Mather.  His paternal grandparents were James Astley and Mary Bury. He had two sisters named Mary and Maria.  Samuel and Mary were twins.
