Frederick's father was Frederick Ashley and his mother was Phoebe Elizabeth Miller. His maternal grandparents were John Miller and Phoebe Haddock. He had four sisters named Laura, Lizzie or Liz, Florrie and Clara. He was the second youngest of the five children. He died in 1927.¹
