Funeral services for Darlene Louise Jacobi Hilligas, 53, Belle Plaine, were held Saturday, July 28, at Christ United Methodist Church, Belle Plaine. The Rev. Dr. Oliver Larkin officiated. Hilligas died Wednesday, July 25, at her home.
The organist was Mabel Kaloupek. Burial was in Rector Cemetery, Chelsea. Pallbearers were Calvin Hilligas, Jr., John Hilligas, Scott Hilligas, Wesley Behounek, Steve Behounek and Eugene VanThournout.
Darlene L. Hilligas was born July 5, 1937, in Belle Plaine. She was the daughter of Mitchell and Louise Beck Jacobi. She graduated from Belle Plaine High School. She married Calvin James Hilligas, Jan. 28, 1955 in Belle Plaine. They were later divorced. She had been a cook in area restaurants. She had lived in Chelsea from 1968 to 1985, when she moved back to Belle Plaine. She is preceded in death by her parents, and a daughter, Joy Lynn, in 1957.
She is survived by three sons, Calvin Hilligas Jr. of Brookings, S.D., John Hilligas of Germany, Scott Hilligas at home; and one daughter, Raylene Behounek of Belle Plaine; two brothers, Leslie and Russell Jacobi of Belle Plaine; seven sisters, Arlene Haloupek of Marshalltown, Rose Collum of Cedar Falls, Kathy Daily of Marion, Janet Callahan of Illinois, Bonnie Gremmius of Marshalltown, and Judy Jacobi of New Mexico; and 10 grandchildren.
Hrabak Funeral Home, Belle Plaine, was in charge of arrangements.
