    Viola Fern Slaby (Mitchelar) Bartels, age 99, of Staunton, IL., died Thursday, January 19, 2006, at Hitz Memorial Home in Alhambra, IL.
    
    She was born February 19, 1906, in New Douglas, IL., the daughter of Fred and Lena (Hendrich) Mitchelar.
    
    Viola was born in Olive Township near New Douglas and grew up on the family farm. She and her husband lived at Livingston. During WW II she worked at Western Cartridge. She sold her home at age 95 and lived with her daughter for two years and then moved to Hitz Home. She loved to play Pinochle and Bingo and spend time with her family.
    She was a member of Ladies Guild @ St. Paul United Church of Christ-Staunton
